CAIR-Chicago to Co-Sponsor Civic Duty Workshop

How do I get involved in my community? What is my civic responsibility as a citizen or new immigrant?

Come learn about how the American government and political system work. This session will provide information about why it is important to become citizens, vote, organize, and voice your opinions to your elected officials at all levels of government. Hear how you can make a difference in your community!

What: Empowering Ourselves: Strengthening Our South Asian Voice
When: Saturday, May 6, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Where: Indo-American Center, 6328 N. California, Chicago 60659
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This event has been planned by members of the Indo-American Democratic Organization, the Indian American Bar Association, the Indo American Center, South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow and South Asian Progressive Action Collective with the support and participation from several other organizations including: CAIR-Chicago, Civil Rights Education Center, llinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, Midwest Business Alliance, Muslim Civil Rights Center, Network of Indian American Professionals (NetIP), Pakistani American Bar Association, Pakistani American Christian Association, Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago, Sikh American Heritage Organization, South Asian American Policy and Research Institute
