Help CAIR-Chicago Mobilize Voters - Volunteer Today!
September 10, 2008
Are you looking for ways to get involved in your community? Frustrated by the challenges Muslims face in America?
So, what are you waiting for? Don’t just talk about it, BE about it!
CAIR-Chicago in partnership with the Mosque Foundation and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) is proud to be an active leader in mobilizing the Muslim vote this year. This year’s presidential election setting all sorts of new records and we are mobilizing the Muslim community in the Mosque Foundation community and surrounding areas to register to vote in record numbers and turn out in record numbers on Election Day.
Why do we need to mobilize the Muslim vote?
We will make our community visible to our elected officials; we will demand change in our broken immigration system; we will demand the backlog from name checks be cleared so people are not left in limbo for years; and we will demand humane policies from the new administration that restore our civil rights!
What can I do to help?
We are looking for dedicated volunteers and activists who are willing to help register people to vote, make phone calls, and become a community leader while earning community service hours!
What exactly will I be doing as an NADP volunteer?
Over the next few months, through the New Americans Democracy Project (NADP) our community organizer and volunteers will:
register Muslims to vote in the Mosque Foundation and surrounding areas
conduct voter registration drives
conduct trainings for volunteers
conduct phone banking sessions
set up workshops for first voters to help them understand the process
distribute voter education guides
I’m interested, what do I do now?
If you are interested in joining the effort and making a difference in our community, please contact the NADP fellow, Nadia Abusumayah at 312-493-1324 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
