"Culture of Violence" Event a Success

Dozens gathered in a lecture hall at DePaul University's College of Law to hear Sami Hermez discuss the culture of violence in southern Lebanon. Hermez discussed the impact of Israel's attack on Lebanon in the summer of 2006.
Sami Hermez is a doctoral candidate of Anthropology at Princeton University currently conducting research on armed and unarmed resistance in Lebanon. He has been in Lebanon since the July 2006 war, where he has been teaching a course on the Anthropology of violence at the American University of Beirut. He is working on relief and redevelopment in the South.
In 2002-2003, Sami was a research intern for Human Rights Watch, New York in their Middle East division on Israeli/Palestinian issues.
The event was sponsored by CAIR-Chicago, Human Rights Watch, DePaul Muslim Law Student's Association, Tikkun Chicago, and the Council on the Advancement for Muslim Professionals Chicago.
