CAIR-Chicago Congratulates Ilhan Omar and Keith Ellison in Primary Wins Last Night

(CHICAGO, IL, 8/15/2018) – The Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) extends our congratulations to Ilhan Omar on her victory in the Minnesota primary yesterday, and on being one step closer to a seat in the United States Congress. If elected in November, Omar will succeed the first Muslim Congressman in US history, Keith Elllson. Ellison won the Minnesota Democratic Attorney General primary last night, and will face Republican pick, Doug Wardlow, in the November general.

"This was an unprecedented night for Muslim Americans," Ahmed Rehab, Executive Director of CAIR-Chicago, said. "the second Muslim American woman on her way to Congress, first Muslim state attorney general, and two state reps. It is a watershed moment that ushers a coming of age.
