CAIR-Chicago Condemns Racist Harassment of North Center Mexican Restaurant, Vows Legal Support with Launch of New ‘Know Your Rights’ Web Portal
(CHICAGO, IL, 1/31/25) – The Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) today condemned the reported racist phone calls targeting a Mexican restaurant in North Center, echoing similar harassment seen in 2016 following the inauguration of President Trump.
According to reports, the restaurant received multiple phone calls containing racist slurs and derogatory remarks aimed at the establishment and its staff. These hate incidents not only harm businesses but also instill fear and division within our broader community.

CAIR-Chicago stands in solidarity with the owners and employees of the affected restaurant, and we urge local authorities to thoroughly investigate these incidents of hate. We call on Chicagoans everywhere to stand with immigrant communities as they face increasing threats, deportation crackdowns, and fear-mongering.
“As we navigate the new Trump administration and observe an intensified ICE presence throughout Chicagoland, it is more important than ever to stay informed, protect ourselves and our fellow community members,” said Heena Musabji, Legal Director of CAIR-Chicago. “We are committed to providing legal support and educational resources to all communities facing harassment, discrimination, and unjust enforcement actions.”
In response to rising concerns, CAIR-Chicago has launched the “Know Your Rights & Essential Resources” web portal—an essential guide covering ICE interactions, protest rights, immigration & asylum support, hate crime reporting, travel assistance, and more. We urge community members to visit www.cairchicago.org/protectingyourrights to access vital legal resources and know their rights.
CAIR-Chicago’s mission is to defend civil rights, fight bigotry, and promote tolerance.
