Census 2020: Make Sure You Count
CAIR-Chicago will always be committed to mobilizing our Muslim communities throughout Chicagoland and Illinois.
CAIR-Chicago, alongside several local and state-wide partners, is working hard to Get Out The Count (#GOTC) for the 2020 Census. Every person in the United States—regardless of age or citizenship/immigration status—is required by federal law to take the census without threat or penalty to citizenship status.
Leading by example is immigrant Latinx Muslim Christopher Nevarez Azdar, who invites you to be counted.
A Summer 2019 CAIR-Chicago Outreach & Government Intern alum, Nevarez Azdar is now the 2020 Census Fellow with CAIR-Chicago and the Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition. Working to increase community awareness through workshops, presentations and events, he has a particular outreach focus on college students while building strategic partnerships with civic engagement organizations.
"The fear of government surveillance through the census is one that, while valid, works to harm us in the long run,” says Nevarez Azdar. “We need to be accurately represented."
