CAIR-Chicago is seeking a dynamic and proactive Media Relations Communication Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of media relations, including scheduling interviews with the press, writing press releases, conducting press conferences, and building and maintaining relationships with the press. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to CAIR-Chicago's mission of promoting understanding and mutual respect among all people. This position is available immediately and expect to work in our downtown Chicago office.
The Communications Department adds vital perspective to public discourse, publishes in a variety of mediums, and produces the latest in promotion collateral, including audio, video, graphic designs, web designs, blogs, and other multimedia.
FULL-TIME MEDIA RELATIONS COMMUNICATION COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and responsibilites include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate and schedule interviews with local, national, and international media outlets.
Write and distribute press releases to announce organizational news, events, and initiatives.
Cultivate relationships with members of the press to ensure accurate and timely coverage of CAIR-Chicago's activities and perspectives.
Monitor media coverage and prepare reports for internal use.
Organize and conduct press conferences and media briefings.
Serve as a spokesperson for CAIR-Chicago when necessary.
Collaborate with Communications Coordinator Erin Davis to develop communication strategies and campaigns.
Stay informed on current events, trends, and issues relevant to CAIR-Chicago's mission and work.
Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor’s or master's degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
2+ years of experience in media relations, public relations or communications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with members of the press.
Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Experience organizing and conducting press conferences and media briefings.
Knowledge of media monitoring tools and techniques.
Familiarity with issues impacting the American-Muslim community is a plus.
Compensation:
Starting salary: $36,000 to $38,000, depending on relevant experience and education
Health, dental, and Vision benefits after 3-month probation
