CAIR-Chicago Condemns Assault on Asian-American Veteran

(CHICAGO, IL, 5/24/2024) – The Chicago Office of the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest civil rights and advocacy organization in the nation, today condemned an alleged assault targeting an Asian-American veteran in Chicago.
An Asian-American veteran was reportedly assaulted outside a grocery store in Chicago’s South Loop. A group of 7-10 men reportedly approached the man and one of them called him an anti-Asian slur. The man said he was pulled from behind and surrounded by the group, before being dragged to the ground and losing consciousness. Police are investigating the incident.
“Hate-motivated assault cannot be tolerated in our society,” said CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab. “We thank police for investigating this incident and urge them to be swift in apprehending the suspects.”
