ABC 7: Judge Rules Mahmoud Khalil to Remain Detained, Activists Demand His Release
ABC 7 News: "What Mr. Khalil was doing was engaging in his First Amendment rights as a person in the United States. And he is now being punished because people in power don't like what he said." said Ed Yohnka, Communications Director, ACLU of Illinois
A judge has ruled that Mahmoud Khalil will remain detained until at least next week as the Trump administration moves forward with plans to deport him. Khalil, who served as the lead negotiator during Columbia University demonstrations, is being labeled a national security threat—a claim his supporters say is unconstitutional and politically motivated.
The @acluofil , @icirr_il , @uspcn , and @sigchofor25 joined CAIR-Chicago in defending Khalil. Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez introduced a Chicago City Council resolution calling for Khalil’s immediate release.
