CAIR-Chicago Conducts Citizenship Delay Workshop at Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs

2/19/06 – CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Coordinator Christina Abraham conducted a workshop regarding the lengthy delays in obtaining citizenship that many Muslims are facing. The workshop explained to the community what the process is after one applies for citizenship and takes the interview. The session explained all of the factors behind the lengthy delays of perhaps thousands of Muslims who have applied for citizenship. The talk also explained the legal options of those who have been waiting for a long amount of time to take their oath ceremony, what CAIR-Chicago, AAAN, and MIHRC are planning to address the issue, and how the Muslim community can participate in this project. Intake was also performed on-site for members of the community who wished to discuss their experience of citizenship delay with the Civil Rights Coordinator. Copyright (C) 2006 CAIR-Chicago
