CAIR Chicago to Co-Host Café Finjan
Café Finjan is a series of interfaith arts exchanges, begun in 2004 by the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (JCUA) as part of its Jewish-Muslim Community-Building Initiative.
"Finjan," a word in both Arabic and Hebrew, is a metal pot for brewing coffee in the traditional Middle Eastern style, not only in the home, but also on a campfire, with comrades gathered around for warmth.
Come join new and old friends for a night of comedy, music, song, and spoken word in an intimate coffeehouse setting on the edge of the West Town and Noble Square neighborhoods.
WHAT: CAFÉ FINJAN
WHY: To establish points of contact and nurture a greater understanding between Jews and Muslims of Chicago by providing a forum for young and established performers from these communities
WHO: The event will feature local Muslim and Jewish poets & spoken word artists, storytellers, comedians, singers, musicians, dancers, and YOU!
WHEN: Thursday, August 21st. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; Starts at 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: Mercury Café, 1505 West Chicago Avenue. (1 block east of Ashland Avenue)
