Build Invaluable Career Skills In a CAIR-Chicago Fall Internship

CAIR-Chicago is now hiring interns for the Fall 2016 session! Apply now; gain skills for a lifetime!

CAIR-Chicago offers a wide range of internship and volunteer opportunities targeted at developing new professional skills while nurturing existing personal strengths. The Fall 2016 session is coming and we are looking for talented applicants to join our team!

Civil Rights, Communications, Government Affairs, Outreach, and Operations Interns are an integral part of our work fighting bigotry and promoting tolerance. We are proud that our internship program not only allows participants to engage in social change but also provides a unique and rigorous career development experience.

To apply or learn more about specific internships, visit our Online Intern Center. Opportunities are available in all of our departments:

Civil Rights

Law Clerks and Interns assist the Civil Rights Department in several projects that highlight distinct civil rights issues that range from citizenship delays to securing the rights of Muslims to practice their religion freely in the public sphere, schools, places of employment, prisons, and other institutions.

Communications

Communications Interns help coordinate press conferences and draft CAIR-Chicago press releases, media advisories, and story pitches in order to ensure that Muslim perspectives on pressing issues and current events are represented in the mainstream media. Interns also work closely with staff to update CAIR-Chicago’s website and social media while monitoring news and flagging coverage relating to civil rights and social justice.

Government Affairs

In the Government Affairs Division, Interns’ efforts focus on community education, including voter registration drives, and workshops on how to engage local, state, and national government officials. Interns also network with public officials to advocate for action that addresses the concerns of Illinois’ Muslim community.

Outreach

Outreach Interns foster understanding between Muslims and the general public across Chicagoland and the State of Illinois. Interns work with the Outreach Coordinator to establish partnerships with local, state, and national institutions and help facilitate CAIR-Chicago’s youth leadership initiative, internship and volunteer activist programs, interfaith and intercultural initiatives, educational seminars, and civic engagement efforts.

Operations

The Operations Department interns assist the Executive team in the daily functions and processes of the organization. Interns assist with a variety of tasks including grant writing, donor management, research, correspondence with vendors and government agencies, and other tasks aimed at managing and improving CAIR-Chicago’s function and efficiency.

Opportunities are available throughout the year for all students to apply—full-time or part-time, undergraduate or graduate, all majors, and even high school students. Interns can earn academic credit or community service hours, or simply enrich their experience and insight to advocacy and civil rights efforts.

To apply, or learn more about specific internships, please visit our Online Intern Center.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Please no phone calls or drop-ins. Due to the anticipated number of applicants, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
