MEDIA DIGEST: CAIR-Chicago and Leaders Host Press Conference Renewing Calls for Senator Feigenholtz’s Resignation Over Promoting Hatred of Muslims

(See full presser and wide press coverage below)

On November 20, 2024, CAIR-Chicago, joined by the community's interfaith leaders and constituents, hosted a critical press conference in Chicago to confront the Islamophobic and anti-Arab hate speech previously shared by Illinois Senator Sara Feigenholtz.

Fuzia Jarad, a Muslim resident of Chicagoland, shared her personal account of an in-person interaction with Sen. Feigenholtz. She recalled the senator allegedly making inflammatory and xenophobic comments, including suggesting that Muslims or people from the Middle East could one day “be on the streets shooting people” and expressing concerns about Muslims “taking over” by advocating for Fridays as holidays.

Together, we called for her resignation and immediate removal from Senate committee leadership by Senate President Don Harmon.
