Press Release: CAIR-Chicago responds to Grand Jury Indictment of Oak Lawn Police Officer in Brutal Beating of Teen
CAIR-Chicago, the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, will hold a news conference welcoming the grand jury indictment of Oak Lawn Police Officer, Patrick O’Donnell, in the brutal beating of then 17-year-old Hadi Abuatelah in July 2022.

'Hatem is a longtime, respected leader in the community. It is unthinkable that he would have any connections to terrorism,' Rehab said. 'This is a new low. … This is an example of FBI overreach when it comes to activism or commentary on the (Middle East) conflict.'"

Religious Discrimination Delays Citizenship Process

CAIR-Chicago Participates in EEOC Mediation Session
Christina Abraham, CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Coordinator, represented a Muslim man in a mediation session with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The Arab American Action Network (AAAN) also played an invaluable role in the mediation session by having intern Menna Khalil serve as an interpreter for the Muslim man being represented.
Update on Citizenship Delay Project
CAIR-Chicago met with the Arab American Action Network at the CAIR-Chicago office to develop strategies for the next phase of the Citizenship Delay Project. The next phase of the project will include a political/media campaign to raise awareness and garner public support, legal remedies for the dozens of cases that have been reported to both organizations on the issue, outreaching to the Muslim community to spread awareness on the issue, and a publication that will detail the course of the project and the findings of research and investigation on the issue.
