“Muslims do kill everybody else that’s not Muslim, and that’s the nature of what the religion is.”

These are words from Purdue University Calumet's tenured Associate Professor of Political Science Maurice Moshe Eisenstein. What began as a public insult against the Prophet Muhammed on his personal Facebook page soon launched into a set of protests, calls to action, and an investigation during which students recorded a semester's worth of lectures providing the public with an ample amount of Eisenstein's heinous comments on not only Muslims but African Americans and Armenians, as well.

Purdue University Calumet's Statement of Integrity and Code of Conduct

"At Purdue, integrity is indispensable to our mission. We act with honesty and adhere to the highest standards of moral and ethical values and principles through our personal and professional behavior. We demonstrate our understanding of these values and principles and uphold them in every action and decision. Trust and trustworthiness go hand in hand with how we conduct ourselves, as we sustain a culture that is based upon ethical conduct. We expect our actions to be consistent with our words, and our words to be consistent with our intentions."

Professor Maurice Moshe Eisenstein has filed a lawsuit against the university upon the basis that his right to free speech has been infringed. But, as the Academic Code of Conduct suggests, the words of faculty, students, and staff are conducive to creating a positive and nurturing learning environment. As such, Professor Eisenstein's bigoted and inflammatory comments towards an entire community of people and students at the university merit a call to his termination.

How would you react if you heard this while in class?

• "The Armenians were only killed one time. That is it, they went through a one-time event…after that nobody did anything to the Armenians” • “..Nothing happened to blacks in the 1960’s in the United States. They had an easy time of it. Y’know, a couple of hoses, water sprayed on them, a couple cold showers, not a real problem.” • “..Now, why is that people can understand, that there’s a real problem with me going forward and lynching a black, because for whatever reason, but there’s no problem with lynching a Jew.” • “..If they never existed, it really would not make a whole lot of difference. You may miss the oil, but the oil is not, has nothing to do with Muslims, it’s under the ground. Outside of that, except for raping four year olds, they’re not any good. They haven’t done anything. And, even in your wildest dreams, name one thing, that’s come out of any Muslim country...”

Though every person is entitled to voice their opinion, many students of different social identities have cited feeling extremely uncomfortable in classes under the direction of Professor Eisenstein. Insisting that Muslims are barbaric, "jew-haters", and corrupt beings cannot be tolerated in an academic setting, a supposed place of learning. The greater Chicagoland area will benefit knowing that its public universities strive to ensure that their faculty abide by their moral and ethical principles.   SIGN: Petition calling for a public apology made by Professor Eisenstein.
