CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Roundtable Discussion with Congressman Chuy Garcia

CAIR-Chicago's Staff, along with a selection of Chicago's Muslim leadership of different backgrounds, met with Congressman Chuy Garcia and members of his staff on Wednesday at CAIR-Chicago's downtown Azima Center to discuss the state of civil rights, Islamophobia, inter-community relations, and other aspects of the Muslim community's justice and harmony agenda.

Among the Muslim leaders & public officials joining Congressman Garcia and CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab for the one-hour roundtable conversation were newly elected IL State Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid, Abdullah Mitchell, Executive Director of CIOGC,  Sima Quraishi and Myriam Rashid of the Muslim Women's Resource Center, Dilara Sayeed & Gerald Hankerson of the IL Muslim Civil Coalition, ISNA Secretary General Safaa Zarzour,  Dr. Nida Sahouri of American Muslims for Palestine, Sh. Hasan Aly, Imam, and Director of the MECCA Center, Dr. Zaher Sahloul founder of MedGlobal, Arjumand Khan, Media Specialist, Bushra Amiwala, the youngest Muslim elected official in the United States, and Maqsood Quadri of NAIT.

The meeting is part of a series of planned community roundtable discussions with congressional leaders and other elected officials that seek to create better understanding and collaboration between our public servants and our Muslim communities.
