CAIR-Chicago Congratulates Board Member, Asma Akhras, on Elected Office

CAIR-Chicago Executive Director, Ahmed Rehab, said in a statement:

"On behalf of our board, staff, interns, and volunteers, I would like to congratulate our Board member, Asma Akhras, on being elected to the Hinsdale District School Board. This is a notable victory given the at-times unfortunate prejudiced Islamophobic campaign against Asma by some individuals in the community that attempted to impugn her and our organization, CAIR-Chicago, with tired anti-Muslim stereotypes and bigoted canards. These voices of hate and darkness must be shunned by all candidates now and in the future. We are extra proud of Asma for rising above the negativity and keeping her attention squarely with the overwhelming majority of community members, who, like her, stayed focused on how to best improve the administration of our children's education. Having admirably watched Asma's leadership and service to others for many years, I am confident she will be a tremendous asset to the school board and will help usher in greater years for our students, and I such I extend my congratulations to the district.
